This slaw is eaten slightly thawed from the freezer. It was made years ago at all the summertime family gatherings.
Ingredients
1 medium head cabbage, shredded
1 carrot, shredded
1 T salt
1 green pepper, cut-up
Salt
2 cups sugar
1 cup vinegar
1/2 cup water
1 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed
Directions
Place cabbage, carrot and green pepper in a large bowl and sprinkle with salt. Let stand one hour; squeeze excess moisture out by hand.
Combine sugar, vinegar and remaining ingredients in a small pan.
Bring to a boil, and boil one minute.
Pour over cabbage mixture and cool.
Place in freezer containers and freeze.
Serve slightly thawed.
